2012 NEWS - FALL BALL

BUCKHANNON - Sept. 8 - Karli Brentlinger, Head Women's Lacrosse Coach at West Virginia Wesleyan College, will be hosting a 3v3 tournament and clinic for middle school & high school girls on October 7.

MORGANTOWN - Sept. 10 - Jeannie Dreisbach has resigned as the head coach for the University High girl's team after 13 seasons. She said she will now be able to concentrate more on her duties as the president of the West Virginia Chapter of US Lacrosse and the West Virginia Women's Lacrosse Official's Board. She added that she will still be a strong supporter of UHS Girls Lacrosse and act as an advisor.

MORGANTOWN - Oct. 4 - The Winner's Edge girl's clinic, scheduled for this Saturday, has been canceled due to lack of participants. Anyone who has prepaid will be refunded.

MORGANTOWN - Oct. 9 - The WVU Women's club lacrosse team will be traveling to Wilmington, North Carolina this weekend to play several games on Saturday and Sunday. They include UNC-Wilmington, James Madison, East Carolina and Coastal Carolina.
     The WVU team will be hosting their own tournament at the end of the month on the Rec Center's turf field near Towers. Their Almost Heaven Fall Ball Classic will include West Virginia Wesleyan, Ohio State and possibly Virginia Tech and George Washington.

MORGANTOWN - Oct. 15 - The WVU Women's Lacrosse team went 3-0 this weekend at the Summers Blues Tournament in Wilmington, North Carolina. They defeated Coastal Carolina University 13-6 and East Carolina University 10-8 on Saturday. The Mountaineers finished up the weekend by downing the host team, UNC-Wilmington 10-4 yesterday.
       The WVU Women's team next outing will be when they host their annual Almost Heaven Fall Ball Classic October 27-28 at the WVU Rec Center field.
CHARLESTON - Oct. 22 - Sporting Elite and the Morgantown Lacrosse Club (formerly De Lizards) are teaming up to help promote lacrosse in the southern part of the state. Morgantown L.C. will play the Marshall University club team at Schoenbaum Field on Sunday, October 28 at 4 PM . They will then host an inexpensive clinic directly after the game around at 6 PM.

YOUTH LACROSSE AT THE WHEELING YMCA
WHEELING - Oct. 29
- The YMCA of Wheeling, WV in conjunction with the Wheeling Area Lacrosse Association (WALA), hosted 24 new Lil' Laxer's during the six week WALA Fall "Learn to Play Lacrosse" clinic.  This marks the second year the clinic was offered by the YMCA to all area elementary age students of Ohio County. The Wheeling Phantom players helped with the clinic which saw participation from 19 boys and 5 girls. 
       Earlier this year, US Lacrosse pitched in by awarding the Wheeling organization with a US Lacrosse physical education grant.  The PE grant included beginner sticks and balls plus curriculum.  Each YMCA Lil' Laxer received basic lacrosse instruction, a water bottle and a LAX t-shirt.  The clinic came to an end Saturday with the "Phantom" Pizza Party!

Morgantown - Dec. 19 - The Charleston YMCA Pioneers middle school team and the University High School team were the victors in their respective divisions this past weekend at the Pro Performance/Sporting Elite 8v8 tournament at Mylan Park. Both teams were undefeated in the tournament.
       Middle school teams in the tournament besides the Pioneers were the Wheeling Phantoms and the University Hawks. The high school teams were set up into two divisions, the Gold Division and the Silver Division. Gold was comprised of University, Fairmont Senior, Capital, Morgantown Red, and George Washington. The Silver Division was won by Wheeling Park and included the Preston Knights, Hurricane, and a second team from Morgantown, Morgantown Blue.

Buckhannon - Jan. 8 - Karli Brentlinger, the Head Coach of West Virginia Wesleyan's Women's team will be hosting a clinic for girls this weekend at Pro Performance in Morgantown. The clinic is Saturday, January 12 and will run from 2 PM to 8 PM.  "It is a great opportunity to lax in a non-traditional season." said Coach Brentlinger. "For high school girls, it's a good warm-up clinic for those high school tryouts and high school seasons!"

Morgantown - Jan. 9 - Jenna Alley is the new head coach for the University High Girls Lacrosse team.. Alley played on the inaugural girls lacrosse team at Fairmont Senior in 2005. She completed her Masters in Elementary Education and specialized in Special Education from West Virginia University's Five Year Teacher Education Program.
       She has been married to her husband Adam, since 2010. During her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Now, into her second year of teaching at University High, she is also the co-sponsor of the Key Club.
       "I am very excited to start my coaching experience at UHS," Alley said, "and am looking forward to the start of a great season."
