 WHERE ARE THEY NOW? - Two former WVSLA players are currently making their mark on the college level. .Morgan Cain, Fairmont Senior '09 and Jenna Hughes, University '09,  have been given post season honors by their respective conferences.
       Cain, playing for Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pa., was honored by the East Coast Conference (ECC), while Hughes, playing for Gannon University in Erie, Pa. was honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

FAIRMONT - July 1 - Marion County Parks & Recreation Commission (MCPARC) will be holding a lacrosse day camp July 18, 19 & 20 at the Rivesville Field. Fairmont Senior's Head Coach, Calvin Todd, will be supervising the camp, which will run from 4:30 PM to approximately 8 PM. Campers should be on the field and ready to go at 4:30. No need to sign up ahead of time.
       The camp is open to students entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade. The fee is $55 per camper which can be paid at the field the first day. Each camper will receive a reversible pinnie. Chacks should be made out to Calvin Todd.
       Each camper must bring a lacrosse stick and have a mouth guard. (Mouth guards can be purchased at Wal-Mart for $1.00) Campers should bring whatever lacrosse equipment they may have. If a player does not have full equipment, it will be provided. It takes time to fit equipment properly, so those borrowing equipment should arrive a half hour early.
       All campers should bring their own water to stay hydrated.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA - July 19 - US Lacrosse welcomed over 1,000 lacrosse players from 33 states to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex for the Champion All-American Showcases and the US Lacrosse U15 National Championships, presented by Champion.

The US Lacrosse events began Sunday with the girls' Champion All-American Showcase. The girls' championship game will be broadcast live today at 2 PM on espn3.com

The boys Champion All-American Showcase will be held July 20-22 with the championship game being aired on a tape-delayed basis by ESPNU on Saturday, July 23 at 7 PM. Players representing 31 states will compete, including University High's Kris Lankford, West Virginia's 2011 All American.

Lankford will be wearing number 10 for team "Spirit" and playing with teammates going to perennial NCAA D1 lacrosse powerhouses like Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, Virginia, and Cornell. Lankford will be attending West Virginia University in the fall. WVU does not have an NCAA lacrosse program. They have had a club team since 1971.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA - July 22 - University High's Kris Lankford is doing a great job representing West Virginia lacrosse and the WVSLA in the All American Showcase. Lankford, playing for team Spirit, has scored in all three games and will now play in the final today vs. team Freedom. ROSTERS
       The final will be aired on ESPNU on Sunday, July 24 at 7 p.m.
       Note the broadcast change from Saturday to Sunday.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLORIDA - July 22 - Calvin Britton, President of Marshall University's club lacrosse team, is working for Grassroots Sports, representing Champion, the official vendor of the All American Showcase.

MORGANTOWN - July 30 - Brett Ehrhardt, one of the owners of Sporting Elite, in conjunction with Morgantown's BOPARC, announced that there is lacrosse every Saturday at the BOPARC Ice Arena. There is a fee of $5. No need to sign up in advance. Just show up ready to play.

High School / Adult - 1:30 - 4:00
Girls - All ages - 4:00 - 5:30
Saturday, August 6, is the LAST Saturday at the rink.

The Watermelon Lost ... but it was in doubt

CHARLESTON - Aug. 4 - Charleston YMCA's summer lacrosse program wrapped up last Sunday with an assault on this watermelon. Only the toughest players from the Kanawha Valley survived 90 plus degree heat over the past 7 weeks. Coach Sutton now moves onto his sofa, where he hopes to see the Mountaineers & Philadelphia Eagles find glory this season.


CHARLESTON - Aug. 8 - Tessie Wallace, George Washington's Girls Coach, will not be able to coach full time next season due to conflicts with work. Coach Wallace hopes to stay involved by holding clinics to teach the sport to newcomers. MORGANTOWN - Sept. 14 - The Morgantown Lizards, the only post grad men's team in the state, opens its fall season this Sunday, Sept. 18, at the new WVU Club Sports Field on the Evansdale campus. MORGANTOWN - Sept. 19 - The De Lazy Lizards, West Virginia's only men's team, got on the field yesterday for the first time this fall against Frostburg State's club at WVU's new club sport facility. The Lizards played a double header vs. the Bobcats since the scheduled Marshall team didn't have enough guys to make the trip up 79.  The Lizards won both games.
       The Lizards are made up of former University & Morgantown players, including coaches, plus a selection on current WVU students and locals who played in college & high school in other states.
       Scoring for both games were Chris Idone 4 goals, Dan Leidl 3, Mike McBride 2, Greg Socha 2, Kris Lankford 2, Kiel Illg 1. Illg had 3 assists on the day.
       In the nets for the Lizards were MHS grad, Lee Wiley in the first game with 4 saves & 5 goals against. UHS grad, Roman Tarantini took over in the second game & had 5 saves with none against.
       The Lizards won 14 face offs, lost 8 and had 30 shots on goal.
       De Lazy Lizards will travel to Fairmont next Sunday to take on Fairmont State's club.


FAIRMONT - Sept. 25 - The Morgantown Lizards at Fairmont State game, scheduled for today, has been canceled.

MARTINSBURG - Sept. 27 - The Martinsburg youth program will now be called Panhandle Lacrosse. Boys and girls teams are now forming for the spring 2012 season. They are looking for prospective players and coaches from Berkeley, Jefferson, & Morgan Counties. Player & coaching clinics will be scheduled prior to the start of the season. Players are asked to forward birth date, sex, and playing experience to Rodney Watcher by October 21st.

WHEELING - Oct. 4 - The Wheeling Area Lacrosse Association (WALA) is proud to announce that they will be hosting a Level 1 Coaches Clinic on December 10th. Go to the WV Chapter page for more details.

MORGANTOWN - Oct. 7 - The Morgantown Lizards will host the Fairmont State club on Saturday at 7 PM at the WVU CLUB Sports Field by the Rec Center. They then travel to RMU for a game on Sunday at 1 PM.

 


MORGANTOWN - Oct. 10 - The WVU Women's club lacrosse team will start their season this coming weekend when they travel to North Carolina to play in the Summer Blue's Lacrosse Tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington. The other teams in the tournament are James Madison, Radford, East Carolina, and South Carolina.
       The Mountaineers will host their own tournament the following weekend at Mylan Park. Teams will include Ohio State, Towson, Penn State and East Carolina.

MORGANTOWN - Oct. 13 - The Morgantown Lizard went 2-1 last weekend, with victories over Fairmont State club 15-1 on Saturday and the Robert Morris club 6-1 on Sunday. The Lizards fell short vs the Penn State Behrend club on Sunday at RMU 6-4. The Lizards having only 13 players for their Sunday games.
     No stats were kept on Sunday, but Saturday's scoring against Fairmont State went as follows:

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Oct. 14 - Four West Virginia teams will be playing tomorrow in an all day lacrosse event at Washington & Jefferson's Alexandre Stadium. W& J will be hosting their "Lacrosse for Special Olympics Tournament" to raise money for the Washington County (Pa.) chapter of Special Olympics. Wheeling Jesuit Bethany, Ohio Valley and the Morgantown Lizards L.C. will compete against W&J, Oberlin, Otterbein, Thiel, Walsh and the William Penn L.C.

WILMINGTON, NC - Oct. 16 - The WVU Women's Lacrosse Club went 1-1 yesterday at the Summer Blue's Lacrosse Tournament, hosted by UNC-Wilmington. The Mountaineers defeated Radford 13-10 but lost to 8th ranked James Madison 14-7. The tournament continues today.

BRIDGEPORT - Oct. 17 - Huntington & Preston boys teams were added to the WVSLA at the league's organizational meeting on Sunday, giving the league 12 full member boys teams. The girls teams are holding steady at 6. The membership increased the number of teams to make the boys playoffs to 8.by eliminating the byes in the existing format.

MORGANTOWN - Oct. 20 - The WVU Women's Lacrosse Club will be hosting their Almost Heaven Lacrosse Tournament this weekend at Mylan Park. The Lady Mountaineers face-off  against Ohio State at 11 AM to open the tourney. Ohio State plays Penn State at 12:30 PM, then WVU takes on Penn State at 1:30 PM. The club will offer concessions and T-shirts at the field.


MORGANTOWN - Nov. 19 - Sporting Elite will be hosting  tournaments in December  for middle school and high school players. The middle school games will be Saturday, December 3 and the high school games will be Sunday, December 4. Both will be at the Pro Performance indoor facility near the Star City exit off 79. WHEELING - Dec. 1 - Sorry to report that the US Lacrosse Level 1 Clinic, scheduled for December 10 at Triadelphia Middle School, has been canceled. Anyone who has signed up will received a refund from US Lacrosse.
       There is another clinic the same day in Middletown, Maryland. That is near Hagerstown. So anyone who still wishes to attend a Level 1 clinic that day can go to the US Lacrosse website here:

MORGANTOWN - Dec. 9 - The Fairmont Freeze edged out the Ohio County Phantoms 9-8 last weekend in a 7v7 middle school tournament sponsored by Sporting Elite at Pro Performance near Morgantown. The University Hawks & Bridgeport Talons were also in the tournament.
